Five major routes, an exceptional territory
The Lot is crossed by legendary routes: the Via Podiensis (GR 65) between Figeac and Cahors, and its more secluded variants (GR 652).
The GR 6 connects Rocamadour, Gramat, and Gourdon, while the GR 46 heads down towards Toulouse via Rocamadour and Cahors.
To the east, the GR 36 passes through Figeac and the Causses du Quercy: a blend of landscapes, heritage, and charming villages.
The main GR routes in the Lot
GR 65 – Via Podiensis (Way of St. James): crosses the department from NE to SW, from Montredon towards the Montlauzun area, via Figeac, Cajarc, Varaire, Cahors, Montcuq, and Lauzerte; the most famous pilgrimage route.
GR 6 – Sainte-Foy-la-Grande → Saint-Paul-sur-Ubaye: cuts through the south of the Lot via the Quercy landscapes, notably connecting Rocamadour, Gramat, and Gourdon.
GR 46 – Tours → Toulouse: a quieter north-south axis than the GR 65, very picturesque, passing through Rocamadour and Cahors.
GR 652 – Variant of the GR 65: an alternative between Cahors and Lectoure via Montcuq and Lauzerte; a calmer atmosphere and villages of the Quercy Blanc.
GR 36 – English Channel → Pyrenees: crosses the east of the department, including Figeac and the Causses du Quercy, for a great nature crossing.
